Sunday

We had quite a slow start to the morning. I was aching from painting and needed to soak in the bath. Then we walked to church which was lovely as it was beautifully sunny with blue skies but cold and frosty. Our service was good. Mark from Rugby spoke about the Psalms and our need for rest. He quoted from 4 songs of degrees. Afterwards we did a little shopping and walked back home to have soup.

At night (and before tiling) we had leek and potato bake :-

3 leeks cut in circles
2 large baking potatoes
some fresh grated nutmeg
sour cream (or cream fraiche or cream if you prefer)
a splash of gin
freshly grated parmesan (or Emmental if preferred)

Braise the potatoes and leeks in a pot of simmering water until tender. Mix with the cream and gin and spice. Season. Place in a gratin dish and sprinkle the cheese on top. Grill for 10 mins or oven bake for 20/25. Present the whole dish and spoon generously onto plates and serve in front of a wood stove in candlelight!
