I love that the library do a summer reading challenge each year. We also loved getting our book stamped and following the Bookstart Bear things - collecting stickers then paw prints and then certificates. Martha has spent so much time in the library that at 4 she has collected all the certificates and there are no more. I have two niggles - why not continue this for children? It seems crazy - they love stuff like that. And my other library niggle is that whenever there is an event - Bookstart Bear's birthday or this kind of reading challenge, the celebration and certificate-giving event seems much more about getting the local paper involved and publicity photos than it ever seems to be about encouraging and inspiring children to a love of reading.
