This is it - Day One

Pretty much all of Martha's friends started school September 2013 (except a few due to start next year)
We have taken the decision to homeschool instead.
There are many, many reasons for this and I could talk for hours (although I often don't in case it seems I am criticizing others' choices to school their kids)
If I have to sum it up this is it....I choose freedom for now, freedom to be a child, to choose how days are spent, to see friends and family, to learn about what we need and want to at this time, to sleep longer if you are tired, to read lots of brilliant books, to rest, to be alone, to mix with children and adults of all ages, to spent time together as a family, to not be in the system, to pray and play, to enjoy the seasons, to bake, to travel when we want, to stay inside and watch the rain, to be outside on a snowy day, to enjoy sunny days, to craft and draw and junk model, to go on exciting adventurous days out with other homeschoolers, to have weekly time with grandparents, to walk and talk, to shop and visit the cafe, to have time to talk to dogs, say hello to cats, hatch butterflies, draw and press flowers, make puppets, cook, chop veggies, make jam tarts, lick the spoon. To spend time in the library near home, the one in the next town and the big one in Birmingham, to watch a movie when we want some down time, to jump in the garden, learn to hula hoop, make mud pies and icy mobiles, plant seeds, watch the birds, play hopscotch, to go camping, fly away, travel north, sing and dance. So many reasons to be free...do what we want in a day and do it all over again tomorrow if we choose to.

Martha runs in and sees her school room for the first time :)
